SONG STUDY (17)  THERE IS A REDEEMER

                                              Melody Green

1.

         There is a Redeemer,

         Jesus God’s own Son,

         Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,

         Holy One.

Chorus

         Thank you, O our Father

         For giving us Your Son,

         And leaving Your Spirit

Till Your work on earth is done.

         2.

         Jesus my Redeemer,

         Name above all names,

         Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,

         O for sinners slain.

         3.

         When I stand in glory

         I will see His face

And there I’ll serve my King forever,

         In that holy place.

This has become a much loved song, especially since Keith Green was tragically killed about 30 years ago.

Questions.

 1.        Understanding the words: redeemer, Messiah, holy, glory.

2.   Verse 1. The idea of a redeemer and redemption runs right through the Bible. See, for example, Leviticus 25:29, Ruth 4:1-15, Job 19:25, Jeremiah 50:33-34, Hosea 3:1-5 and Romans 3:21-26.

3.   Jesus is described in 5 ways in this verse. What does “precious lamb of God” mean? See John 1:29-34.

4.   Chorus. What is God’s work on earth? John 16:5-15 and Matthew 6:9-10.

5.   Verse 2. “Name above all names”. See Acts 4:8-12 and Philippians 2:9-11.

6.   Verse 3. When will we see His face and why is this so important to believers? See Revelation 22:3-5 and 1 John 3:2.

7.   What holy place? See Hebrews 9:11-14 and Revelation 7:9-17

Song Study 14: Jesus Lover of My Soul

SONG STUDY (14)  JESUS LOVER OF MY SOUL This song was written by  Charles Wesley  in 1740 soon after his conversion. It has been sung to many tunes and in turn has been the inspiration of other great songs. 1 Jesus lover of my soul, Let me to Thy bosom fly, While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high: Hide me, O my Saviour, hide, Till the storm of life is past; Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last! 2 Other refuge have I none, Hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, ah! leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me: All my trust on Thee is stayed; All my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenceless head With the shadow of Thy wing. 3 Thou, O Christ, art all I want; More than all in Thee I find; Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, Heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is Thy name, I am all unrighteousness; False and full of sin I am, Thou art full of truth and grace. 4  P lenteous grace with Thee is found; Grace to cover all my sin; Let the h

Song Study 12: Meekness and Majesty

Song Study (12) MEEKNESS AND MAJESTY This is a modern hymn by Graham Kendrick (UK), written in 1986. Like the earlier hymns we have examined, it is based on Scripture and contains some difficult words. The message of the song is “ When God became man in the form of Jesus he came as a servant. This is what he expects of us too. ” Rather than a series of questions, let’s look at a series of “key Scriptures” to help us understand what this means and how we are to respond to God’s grace.  Meekness and Majesty:  Meekness And Majesty - Graham Kendrick Lyric Video - YouTube                                Meekness and majesty, Manhood and Deity, In perfect harmony, The Man who is God. Father’s pure radiance, Perfect in innocence, Yet learns obedience To death on a cross. Su
