SONG
STUDY (30) JESUS, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NAME
Tanya Riches. "
Her first song ‘Jesus What a Beautiful Name’ has become one of our nation’s favourite worship tunes, and was just the beginning of her ministry. Tanya went on to become a Hillsong Worship Leader, front her own band ‘Speaking for Sarah’, wrote her Masters on a critique of Hillsong Music, and is now back in Oz conducting field work for her doctorate thesis.
Transitioning between the worlds of traditional ministry and academic pursuit has allowed Tanya to see the way faith impacts directly on culture, and the ways we perceive worship in mainstream society."
Tanya Riches singing this song: Jesus, What a Beautiful Name
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
Son of God, Son of Man,
Lamb that was slain.
Joy and peace, strength and hope,
Grace that blows all fear away.
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
Truth revealed, my future sealed,
Healed my pain.
Love and freedom, life and warmth,
Grace that blows all fear away.
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
Rescued my soul, my stronghold,
Lifts me from shame.
Forgiveness, security, power and love,
Grace that blows all fear away.
Jesus, what a beautiful name.
1.
Understanding the words: slain,
stronghold, security.
2. The name of Jesus is often mentioned in Scripture: see
Acts 3:16, 4:12-19, Matthew 1:21, Mark
Philippians 2:9-11. What do they all add up to?
3. The statement “Son of God, Son of Man” sums up what has
always been one of the great issues of Christian doctrine.
The question is, how can he be both (at the same time)?
See Hebrews
Is he still both God and Man, or was that
something that only applied
while he was here on earth?
4. The lamb that was slain. See Numbers 15:1-5, John 1:29-36,
Revelation 5:11-14 and 13:5-8.
Why is Jesus the “lamb of
God”?
5. Another repeated line is “grace that blows all fear away”.
What does this mean? See Acts
1 Peter 3:13-16 and 1 John 4:18.
6. Jesus spoke about the truth. What did he mean by it?
See John 3:16-21, 4:24, 8:31-32, 14:6, 14:15-17, 17:13-19
and 18:36-38.
7.
In the final verse we read words which remind us of many of the Psalms. See Psalm 16:8-11,
