SONG STUDY (30) JESUS, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NAME

Tanya Riches. "
At just 15 years of age Tanya Riches wrote her way into Australia Christian Music history.

Her first song ‘Jesus What a Beautiful Name’ has become one of our nation’s favourite worship tunes, and was just the beginning of her ministry. Tanya went on to become a Hillsong Worship Leader, front her own band ‘Speaking for Sarah’, wrote her Masters on a critique of Hillsong Music, and is now back in Oz conducting field work for her doctorate thesis.

Transitioning between the worlds of traditional ministry and academic pursuit has allowed Tanya to see the way faith impacts directly on culture, and the ways we perceive worship in mainstream society."

Tanya Riches singing this song: Jesus, What a Beautiful Name

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

Son of God, Son of Man,

         Lamb that was slain.

Joy and peace, strength and hope,

Grace that blows all fear away.

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

         Truth revealed, my future sealed,

         Healed my pain.

Love and freedom, life and warmth,

Grace that blows all fear away.

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

         Rescued my soul, my stronghold,

         Lifts me from shame.

         Forgiveness, security, power and love,

Grace that blows all fear away.

         Jesus, what a beautiful name.

Questions:

1.   Understanding the words: slain, stronghold, security.

2.   The name of Jesus is often mentioned in Scripture: see

Acts 3:16, 4:12-19, Matthew 1:21, Mark 9:37-41 and

Philippians 2:9-11. What do they all add up to?

3.   The statement “Son of God, Son of Man” sums up what has

always been one of the great issues of Christian doctrine.

The question is, how can he be both (at the same time)?

See Hebrews 2:14-18, John 1:1 and Philippians 2:5-11.

Is he still both God and Man, or was that

something that only applied while he was here on earth?

4.   The lamb that was slain. See Numbers 15:1-5, John 1:29-36,

Revelation 5:11-14 and 13:5-8.

Why is Jesus the “lamb of God”?

5.   Another repeated line is “grace that blows all fear away”.

What does this mean? See Acts 9:31, Romans 8:12-17,

1 Peter 3:13-16 and 1 John 4:18.

6.   Jesus spoke about the truth. What did he mean by it?

See John 3:16-21, 4:24, 8:31-32, 14:6, 14:15-17, 17:13-19

and 18:36-38.

7.   In the final verse we read words which remind us of many of the Psalms. See Psalm 16:8-11, 18:17-19, 37:9, 53:7-8, 107:20, 130:4, 145:14, 147:5.

Warner            1.           Jesus loves me! This I know,            For the Bible tells me so;           Little ones to Him belong,           They are weak but He is strong.             Chorus           Yes, Jesus loves me!           Yes, Jesus loves me!           Yes, Jesus loves me!           The Bible tells me so.             2.           Jesus loves me! He who died,           Heaven’s gate to open wide;           He will wash away my sin,           Let His little child come in.             3.           Jesus loves me! He will stay           Close beside me all the way           Then His little child will take           Up to heaven, for His dear sake.   Questions. “Jesus Loves Me”. Is there a Bible verse that actually says this? See 1 John 3:16, Romans  8:37 -39,
SONG STUDY (1) INTRODUCTION - BIBLE STUDIES BASED ON HYMNS AND SONGS The words in most hymns and Christian songs often contain quotes from the Bible and these are frequently taken from the King James (Authorised) translation. Because of changes in word meanings since the seventeenth century, modern singers frequently have only a vague understanding of what the song writer meant. Even songs being written today use difficult words and ideas. There is a tendency to use what may be called "Christian jargon", which may be meaningful to some and meaningless to others. Stuart Townend (1963 -) It is assumed that the reader has a copy of the Bible on hand. There are many modern translations around; the writer uses the NIV (New International Version). Isaac Watts 1674-1748 The studies in this blog series have been used at the Glen Innes and Lithgow Baptist churches in NSW, Australia.
