SONG STUDY (30) JESUS, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NAME Tanya Riches. " At just 15 years of age Tanya Riches wrote her way into Australia Christian Music history. Her first song  ‘Jesus What a Beautiful Name’  has become one of our nation’s favourite worship tunes, and was just the beginning of her ministry. Tanya went on to become a Hillsong Worship Leader, front her own band ‘Speaking for Sarah’, wrote her Masters on a critique of  Hillsong Music , and is now back in Oz conducting field work for her doctorate thesis. Transitioning between the worlds of traditional ministry and academic pursuit has allowed Tanya to see the way faith impacts directly on culture, and the ways we perceive worship in mainstream society." Tanya Riches singing this song: Jesus, What a Beautiful Name          Jesus, what a beautiful name.          Son of God, Son of Man,          Lamb that was slain.          Joy and peace, strength and hope,          Grace that blows all fear away.

Our recommended video has the best hymn sung to the best tune. 1 Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down; Fix in us thy humble dwelling; All thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation; Enter every trembling heart.   2 Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit, Into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit; Let us find thy promised rest. Thee we would be always blessing, Serve Thee as Thy hosts above, Pray and praise Thee without ceasing, Glory in Thy perfect love.   4
SONG STUDY (28) THE OLD RUGGED CROSS George Bennard          “The inspiration came to me one day in 1913, when I was staying in Albion, Michigan. I began to write “The Old Rugged Cross.” I composed the melody first. The words that I first wrote were imperfect. The words of the finished hymn were put into my heart in answer to my own need. Shortly thereafter it was introduced at special meetings in Pokagon, Michigan on June 7, 1913. The first occasion where it was heard outside of the church at Pokagon was at the Chicago Evangelistic Institute. There it was introduced before a large convention and soon it became extremely popular throughout the country.”       1 On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain. Chorus So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And excha
SONG STUDY 27  IN CHRIST ALONE Stuart Townend and Keith Getty These two great songwriters have combined to write many modern Christian songs. This song is one of their best.                               In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light my strength my song. This Cornerstone this solid Ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love what depths of peace When fears are stilled when strivings cease My comforter my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand.   In Christ alone who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe. This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones he came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live.   There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again. And as He stands in victor

SONG STUDY (25): TRUST AND OBEY                                                 Daniel Brink Towner                                       JH Sammis 1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of  His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides  with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Chorus Trust and obey, for  there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust  and obey. 2. Not a burden we bear,  not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss,  not a frown or a cross, But is blest if we trust and obey.  3. But we never can prove the  delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay;  For the favour He shows and the joy  He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey. 4. Then in fellowship sweet we  will sit at His feet. Or we’ll walk by His side in the way. What He says we will do, where He  sends we will go; Never fear, only trust and obey. This hymn gives a simple, clear explanation of living the
SONG STUDY (24): FROM HEAVEN YOU CAME  (THE SERVANT KING)            Graham Kendrick From heaven You came, helpless babe,  Entered our world, Your glory veiled; Not to be served but to serve,  And give Your life that we might live.                                                Chorus This is our God, the Servant King,  He calls us now to follow Him, And give our lives as a daily offering  Of worship to the Servant King.                                                                    There in the garden of tears,  My heavy load He chose to bear; His heart with sorrow was torn,  “Yet not my will but Yours,” He said.    Chorus                                      Come see His hands and His feet,  The scars that speak of sacrifice, Hands that flung stars into space  To cruel nails surrendered.          Chorus    So let us learn how to serve,  And in our lives enthrone Him; Each other’s needs to prefer,  For it is Christ we’re serving.
